WORKSHOPS AND TRAINING OPTIONS:

Option One: MEETING GRAPHICS 101 WORKSHOPS
(public and in-house)
An Introductory/Basic Skills Workshop for Experienced Facilitators, Coaches, Managers, Group and Project Leaders (people who help other people see, think and make decisions).
Learn tips and techniques that you can use for working more effectively with groups and individuals.
Research states that up to 87% of the North American population are visual thinkers. Learn to tap the power of visual language to more effectively reach your clients.
This two-day workshop includes:
  • An overview of the history of the graphic facilitation field and the range of graphic approaches now being used with groups and individuals;
  • Demos of graphic recording, graphic facilitation, and graphic coaching;
  • Explanation of the 'tools of the trade' (paper, tape, markers, helpful aids);
  • Discussion of 'templates' and other pre-prepared products;
  • Practice sessions: imagery, tips for improved flipchart recording, graphic facilitation
  • Quick tips on photography and reproduction of charts;
  • Useful handouts on common icons, graphic resources and practice tips.
  • One hour of individualized, post-workshop coaching.
People retain around 65% of what they see and only 15% of auditory concepts. The use of graphic language promotes lasting images and retention of ideas.
NO ART TRAINING OR ARTISTIC ABILITY REQUIRED: ART PHOBES ARE FULLY ENCOURAGED AND WELCOMED!

"I loved this workshop! I don't have a single artistic bone in my body and was still stunned at what I could do by the end of the day. Christina's teaching style is approachable and supportive. The fact that most of the workshop was hands-on really helped to boost my confidence". Jill Reid, District Staff Development Team, Coquitlam School District

"I would say that as someone who got an F in Art when I was twelve years old I've always lacked confidence when it comes to the graphic finesse of my handouts and flipcharts. After the workshop I'm now much more confident and competent and have been able to apply what I learned throughout the summer. The workshop was hugely enjoyable and immediately applicable ... you can't get much better than that!" Dave Whittington, Calliope Learning / Royal Roads University, MBA Faculty

"Graphic Facilitation makes facilitation a lot more interesting for both facilitator and audience. This workshop was excellent. The process allowed hands on practice and feedback. Easy to learn. I highly recommend it to others". Rosanna von Sacken, Advanced Consulting Inc.

In-house and Public Offerings:

Meeting Graphics 101 workshops are offered on a public basis approximately three times a year, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

This workshop can also be delivered in-house, tailored to your organization's specific needs. Travel expenses and material fees additional. You will also be responsible for providing an appropriate workshop site (plenty of wide open wall space!).

Date of Next Offering: May 21-22, 2008 and Nov. 5-6, 2008

GRAPHICS BOOTCAMP: ADVANCED SKILLS TRAINING
Skyrocket Your Skills in Graphic Recording and Graphic Facilitation!
  • Already Have Some Basic Interactive Graphics Skills?
  • Ready for the Next Level of Complexity?
  • Want to Boost Your Comfort and Overall Confidence?

This advance level public workshop is for facilitators, trainers, consultants and budding graphic recorders who want to take their interactive graphic skills up to the next level. Designed for both graphic recording and graphic facilitation focuses (although emphasis is on building recording repertoire first). A prerequisite is the introductory Meeting Graphics course (or equivalent experience).

“Christina, you are fantastic! This Bootcamp really took me to my next level in graphic facilitation and recording. My learning curve is now more like a straight line – up! Expanded my skills in drawing, template design and will support my business offering to my clients through my ability to increase my variety of services”.

Pattie Porter, San Antonio, TX www.conflictconnections.com

This two-day heavily experiential workshop (extremely hands-on, you will be up at the wall practicing, practicing and practicing!) will cover:

  • Review of foundational marker skills (lettering, color selection, line textures);
  • Refresher on basic definitions (differences between custom chart work, graphic recording, graphic facilitation and graphic coaching);
  • Listening and extraction skills (finding the core informational nugget);
  • List and cluster recording (working as a graphic recorder);
  • Advance icons and use of visual metaphors;
  • Advance templates (creating your own custom templates);
  • Role clarity (working in graphic recording and facilitation teams);
  • Realistic expectations (output differences in recording vs. facilitation venues);
  • Report and post-reproduction techniques;
  • Marketing 101: (how to represent the benefits of this work, find and develop clients... whether you work internally or as an independent);
  • Ongoing development ideas and tips.

“This is one of the best courses I have ever taken! Real world applications, genuine and dynamic information and a comfortable learning environment were just a few of the reasons I would recommend this to anyone interested in making the world a better place”.

Erik Hanson, Speaker/Facilitator, Extreme Kindness Crew, www.extremekindness.com

Intended Outcomes:

Throughout and by the end of this workshop, you will:
  • Learn what niche / style best suits you;
  • Overcome ‘wall reluctance’ & expand your ability to work comfortably in large format and in public;
  • Increase your icon library (more range of visuals to work from);
  • Participate in individual and group activities that will force you to do it (the only way is through!);
  • Have a thorough understanding of pre and post event necessities (for both graphic recording and graphic facilitation);
  • Improve your overall confidence and level of comfort in working in this special way;
  • Increase your belief or ‘allowing’ that it is possible for you to do this work and weave it into your practice or livelihood;
  • Make connections and network with other learners (from different geographies and niches);
  • Have extensive notes and examples to refer back to;
  • Have memories of a great time in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia!

“For facilitators who are looking to shake it up, take it up a notch and expand their skill sets … this is the course. And for those of you who feel constrained by flip chart paper and single color pen use – break loose. The ratio of ‘theory transfer’ to practical application / hands on trial was PERFECT! Wonderful to witness another professional’s expertise (Christina’s a wonderful facilitator)”.

Sue Davis, Internal Consultant, Regional Health Authority, Vancouver, BC

This workshop is designed from a mentoring and mastermind group perspective. Adult learning techniques will be woven throughout to ensure optimal learning, retention... and fun! A rare opportunity to enhance and practice your graphic recording and graphic facilitation skills in a safe, collegial and supportive environment.

Option Three: PRIVATE TRAININGS

Public workshop offerings don’t fit your schedule? Prefer more individualized attention? Have specific things you want to focus on?

Book Christina for a private training in her Victoria BC studio. Agendas designed specifically for your unique needs (from beginner to advanced practitioner: graphic recording or graphic facilitation applications). Unique opportunity to work up close with a skilled ‘interactive graphics’ pro. Fees are a steal, given going rate for graphic recorders and graphic facilitators is $1500-3000+ per day. Christina will only be available until 2009 for this kind of one-to-one attention, so claim some time with her while you still can.

"Flying in for a private two-day workshop with Christina was great (and so was the whale watching off Victoria). I was able to readily apply what she taught me. Two weeks later I was using some recommended templates and created some of my own. Her process forced me to re-think the way I have been doing executive planning retreats and helped me refine my agendas to produce a more coherent product."

Doug Thompson, Thompson Strategy Consulting, Virginia, U.S.A.

"My HR Director and I came for customized training in July 2006. I had been creating more opportunities to use graphics in my work but had encountered a confidence and skill barrier. To that end, Christina is an excellent teacher and coach. She has a solid base of organizational development, systems thinking and integrating graphics. I loved the engaging “at the wall” practice, the practical tips and effective how-to's. Her studio is a wonderful learning lab. With her help and continued inspiration I'm using my skills in greater ways. I highly recommend working with Christina in both a coach and teacher capacity."

Haley Green, Training & Development Dept., Edmonds Community College, Lynnwood, Washington

"Great coach. Positive & encouraging coaching style. Lovely location. An adventure in learning. 2 days of focused attention - Christina broke her methods down for me into manageable pieces and segments. I left with greater confidence in my ability to become a successful graphic facilitator. Within days of returning home I had completed three of my action steps to move my business to the next level and gotten just the results I intended."

Sue Keely, Graphic Facilitator,
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.

Option Four: IN-HOUSE TRAININGS

Have a group in your location? Prefer to bring Christina to you? Book Christina for an in-house workshop to train you in the rare graphic recording and graphic facilitation skills. You provide the room (space with lots of walls!) and people (from 3-16) … and Christina will design and instruct one and two day formats to meet your graphic training needs.

"I contracted Christina to do a Meeting Graphics 101 training for our urban planning department. It was an excellent investment - we implemented her methods immediately into our downtown planning process and then our Parks Master Planning process with awesome results. Lots of raves from participants and staff as this new way of working really spiced things up for us too! Highly recommend."

Lindsay Chase, MCIP, Senior Planner, City of Victoria

Option Five: ONGOING MENTORING & COACHING

Are you really serious about your Graphic Recording or Graphic Facilitation work? Do you love it so much you are dreaming about how to become an independent practitioner? If so, who better to work with than someone who has been there and done it?!

For the truly serious, Christina offers one-to-one Graphic Coaching Retreats to harvest your past, present and future --- to decide what you really, really want for your future practice and how to get it. Spent 2.5 days with Christina in her Victoria, B.C. studio. Working 'at the wall' using the graphic methodology to pull your answers out of you. You walk out with a strong, solid Personal Vision, plenty of 'belief work' on flipping self-limiting beliefs and attitudes, and a detailed, tangible Action Plan of your next steps.

"Christina, thanks again for your mentoring support. It always makes a difference! Just wanted you to know that the strategic planning meeting that I graphically facilitated worked very well. It was a lot of work this first time out but I think I have the hang of it. The evaluations were so good, I am saving them to read on a dark grey day! Again, thanks."

Carol Vollmer, Internal Facilitator/Trainer, Department of Veterans Affairs, North Carolina, USA

Retreat is followed up with three implementation-coaching calls --- giving you the support and encouragement you need to execute and evolve your action steps back in your real world environment.
